The U40 Mexico Network was born out of the U40 Interamerican Meeting (May 2011) which was held in Toluca, Mexico.
The main objectives of U40 Mexico are:
- to raise awareness for the UNESCO Convention in public institutions, civil society organisations and private initiatives, based in Mexico
- to promote the importance of cultural diversity in Mexico through cultural and artistic activities
- to link relevant local, statal, national and international institutions to synchronise the diverse cultural manifestations in the country aiming at joining efforts and broaden the outreach.
Young experts from 8 Mexican States are part of U40 Mexico: Distrito Federal, Estado de México, Jalisco, Michoacán, Tamaulipas, Coahuila, Querétaro and Veracruz.
U40 Mexico has organised various activities such as target group oriented workshops to raise awareness for the 2005 Convention, advising cultural projects when applying for the International Fund for Cultural Diversity, conferences and seminars at universities, book fairs and others.
Currently, the network is mapping institutions in Mexico that are of relevance for effectively implementing the 2005 Convention.
